First Chevrolet Volt retail customer takes delivery

A retired airline pilot is the first person to receive a Chevrolet Volt  after "Nissan turned over its first new LEAF"

Although accomplished in a decidedly lower-profile manner, the first Chevrolet Volt was delivered to its owner four days after Nissan turned over its first new LEAF. In the case of Chevy's equally-groundbreaking vehicle, this handover took place a couple of weeks ahead of when the automaker had originally promised deliveries would begin. The owner is a retired airline pilot, Jeffrey Kaffee, of Parsippany, New Jersey. Interestingly enough, Kaffee is abandoning a Toyota Prius to move into his new Volt. Kaffee's car was among the first batch of 360 Volts that Chevy shipped from its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to various dealers in California, Austin, Texas and the Washington D.C. areas.
In other Volt news, an online auction for the second vehicle to roll off of the production line ended this week with bidding closing at $225,000. The winning bid was made by long-time Chevy proponent Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman of the Hendrick Automotive Group. Chevrolet will donate all proceeds from the event to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation to help support various science, math, engineering, and technology education initiatives throughout the system. Hendirick's car, VIN BU100002, is a loaded Volt finished in Viridian Joule with a Premium trim package, Rear Camera and Park Assist Package polished wheels and includes an installed 240V home-charging station.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible will pace this year's Indy 500

You're looking at the special-edition 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible. It will lead the pack of 33 to the green flag on May 29th at the Indianapolis 500.

Although its selection marks the twenty-second time that a Chevrolet has been chosen to handle race-pacing duties for this legendary motorsport event, the 2011 contest will have special significance as both the marque and the Indy 500 are celebrating their centennial anniversaries.

Finished in Summit White with orange accent stripes and door graphics, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible Indianapolis 500 Pace Car's color scheme is strongly reminiscent of on used on the 1969 Camaro which also served in this capacity. That motif carries over inside as well, where  orange stripes extend onto the white dash and white door panels are set off leather-trimmed seats that match black bolsters with orange inserts and feature headrests embossed with the Indy 500 logo.
